Dearest in christ!

“There are some frauds so well conducted that it would be stupidly not to be deceived”
-Charles Caleb Colton

It’s a fact that all churches are built on the generosity of others. Without the kind donations of dedicated people most churches would never have been built and even once they have without peoples continued support they would have closed their doors because they cannot afford continue to operate.

So you would think that when some writes to my church offering a significant donation we would be excited by the possibilities, or would we?

The email I got in this regard started with "Dearest in Christ”.

Long story short some kind "Sister in Christ" wrote to offer my Church an extremely generous donation. In fact it was to tune of several million dollars.

Now as much as I hate to admit it, I'm a firm believer in the old rule that if an offer looks to good to be true it usually is! So my paranoid little personality just couldn't let go of two little red flags that popped up.

1)Over the past several months I have received a number of similar offers all starting with exactly the same salutation and if actually drawn upon would total over 100 million dollars and counting.

2)All I have to do is give them is my banking information.

I keep thinking of an old saying that says:

“Just because you’re a good guy doesn’t mean you’re stupid”

Thank god this type fraud is less then well conducted.
